A Whiff of Nostalgia: My Experience with Boond Fragrances

A friend recommended Boond Fragrances to me, saying their scents were unlike anything else. She described them as authentic and evocative, reminding her of India. Intrigued, especially by the “Maati” fragrance (the smell of the first rain!), I decided to check them out.

Navigating the Website

The Boond Fragrances website itself is clean and easy to navigate. The product photos are lovely and the descriptions, although brief, are enticing. I liked how they highlighted the traditional Indian perfume-making techniques. I appreciated how they emphasize that local artisans make the fragrances. Additionally, knowing their products are chemical and alcohol-free was definitely a plus. However, I wished there was a bit more detailed information on the fragrance notes for each perfume. It left me relying on the somewhat poetic descriptions which, while nice, weren’t quite enough to fully grasp the scent profile. Still, I was drawn in enough to make a purchase.

Choosing My Scent

Maati, naturally, was the first fragrance I added to my cart. The promise of petrichor (the smell of rain on dry earth) was too appealing to resist. Then, I decided to also try “Gulabi” (Indian Rose). Rose scents can be tricky, but the fact that it was an attar a traditional perfume oil made me hope it would be something special and not overly synthetic. I held off on Motiya (Jasmine) for a future order, as I already own several jasmine-based perfumes. I took a moment to ensure I understood their “prepaid orders only” policy, it was clearly displayed at the bottom of the homepage, under secure payments.

Checkout and Payment

The checkout process was straightforward. It’s a pretty standard process; entering my address, choosing the shipping option (express shipping within India was available), and making the payment. It was smooth and trouble-free. I appreciated the assurance of a “100% secure payment gateway.” Once my order went through, I received a confirmation email fairly quickly.

Delivery and Packaging

The delivery was surprisingly fast! I opted for express shipping and received my order within two days. The package itself was well-protected. Each perfume oil was nestled securely in its own little box, which was then packed inside a larger, sturdier box. There wasn’t excessive packaging, which is always good to see. Additionally, each little box had information about the fragrance which I read.

The Fragrances Themselves

Now, for the most important part: the fragrances! I was incredibly excited to try them, especially Maati. The first sniff was… interesting. It wasn’t exactly what I expected. I imagined something purely earthy, but there was also a subtle sweetness and something vaguely floral. It really did evoke the feeling of damp earth after a rain, but in a more sophisticated way. It’s a unique fragrance. It definitely has staying power. I applied it in the morning and could still smell it faintly by evening.

Gulabi was equally interesting, but more familiar. It wasn’t a typical sweet rose scent. Instead, there was a slight green note, almost like the stems and leaves of the rose, alongside the floral sweetness. It felt very natural and not at all overpowering. Again, the longevity was good. Moreover, it has become a scent I would want to wear daily.

The fact that these are perfume oils rather than alcohol-based perfumes definitely makes a difference in the overall experience. The scent is more intimate, lingering closer to the skin. I found the application to be quite simple; the rollerball applicators dispense just the right amount of product.

Customer Support Experience

I didn’t need to contact customer support regarding my order as everything was so simple and quick. But when browsing the website, I saw the whatsapp information for support which is quite interesting. Although, an FAQ would be a welcome addition. They have a small “FAQs” section, but it is lacking substance. It includes the general information that is already listed around the site.

Overall Impression

Overall, my experience with Boond Fragrances was very positive. From the easy-to-use website to the quick delivery and unique, high-quality fragrances, I was impressed. There is little I did not enjoy about my experience. While I would have loved more detailed scent descriptions online, the actual perfumes lived up to the hype. If you’re looking for something different from the typical commercial fragrances, and want to support a company that is reviving traditional Indian perfume-making, I definitely recommend giving Boond Fragrances a try. I know I’ll be ordering from them again Motiya is calling my name! Furthermore, their origin of being GI Tagged from Kannauj Perfume makes it more of a special purchase. It also makes it an authentic and cultural experience.
